In February 2026, we received a blank lion, to decorate and raise money for St Clare’s Hospice. We came up with the idea to base the design on PEMBERLEY’S YEAR OF READING.
Each class was allocated a portion of the lion inspired by a storytelling setting.
The face was inspired by our existing PEMBERLEY PANTHER design, used as our sporting mascot since the school began.
Now that we had an idea, Mr Fish designed and painted the section backgrounds. This took several weeks. Through March and April, Mr Fish and a specially selected artistically talented team of pupils painted our lion.
Every student was asked to submit elements based on their class theme. The best artworks were selected, and the chosen pupils got to paint their designs on to the lion.
Once the lion was ready, it would be delivered back to St Clare’s Hospice. Then, from 24th July it will be on display somewhere in Harlow! You will be able to find and view the whole pride across Harlow and neighbouring towns.
In October, our lion will return to school, where he will remain for future generations of students to see!
