THE DESIGN PROCESS
In February 2026, we received a blank lion, to decorate and raise money for St Clare’s Hospice. We came up with the idea to base the design on PEMBERLEY’S YEAR OF READING.
Each class was allocated a portion of the lion inspired by a storytelling setting.
The face was inspired by our existing PEMBERLEY PANTHER design, used as our sporting mascot since the school began.

Now that we had an idea, Mr Fish designed and painted the section backgrounds. This took several weeks. Through March and April, Mr Fish and a specially selected artistically talented team of pupils painted our lion.
Every student was asked to submit elements based on their class theme. The best artworks were selected, and the chosen pupils got to paint their designs on to the lion.

Once the lion was ready, it would be delivered back to St Clare’s Hospice. Then, over the summer of 2026 it was on display at Harlow Town library!
In October, our lion returned to school, where he will remain for future generations of students to see!
The Storybook
Available for £2 each from the office, this handsome book (written with input from every class) details the story of Fergus’s journey back to his home at Pemberley!
